Festive Pot Holder

This project is made using the fast and exciting C2C (corner to corner) stitch. It is worked in two panels that are afterwards crocheted together.

Festive Pot Holder

Materials:

3mm hook

200g aprox. dk weight cotton yarn (Colour A)

General instructions and notes. Please read carefully.

• Pattern is written in UK crochet terms.

• In C2C crochet it is advised to use a smaller hook than the one specified for the weight of yarn you use, in order to create a denser fabric.

• If you are unfamiliar with C2C (corner to corner) crochet I suggest you watch the very helpful; video “How to crochet the corner to corner ‘C2C’ blanket” by BellaCoco on YouTube.

• If you are familiar with C2C crochet you will only need the chart to make the pot holder. If, however, you are unfamiliar with it I would suggest to first try working the second panel in just one colour –without the snow flake- to get the hang of it.

• You will need to keep the yarn you don’t use in the wrong side of the work at all times. Also, try to untangle the yarns from time to time, because they tend to get tangled in C2C crochet.

•  Remember to not carry your yarn in more than 3 blocks at a time.

• How to change colors: start the last treble of Yarn A as usual and finish it with Yarn B; then continue crocheting the block in Yarn B. That gives a more subtle appearance in the final fabric, leaving as less “loose” points of colour in between Yarn A and B.

• In this particular pattern, that has one diagonal line of blocks in Yarn B, please be extra careful in the “corners” of the blocks where Yarn B has to be continuous, in order to give the impression of the line. These are rows 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 horizontally and lines 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 vertically. In the blocks where the row meets the line in Yarn B, start the last treble of the block in Yarn A, finish it in Yarn B, make the slip stitch in Yarn B and continue to chain the 3chain of the following block in Yarn A as normal. In that way the “line” is not interrupted by Yarn A.

• I highly recommend to print the chart provided in the end of the pattern and use a pencil to mark the rows and the number of blocks of each colour. This is how mine looks like:

Row 20: Change to colour B, ss along the 3 st you just made and into the first 3 ch-sp, 3 ch, 3 tr in ch-sp, ss into the 3 ch-sp of previous row, 3 ch, 3 tr into same 3 ch-sp, ss into next 3 ch-sp of previous row, turn (2 blocks)

Row 21: ss along the 3 st you just made and into the first 3 ch-sp, 3 ch, 3 tr in ch-sp, ss into next 3 ch-sp of previous row, turn, ss along the 3 st you just made (1 block)

To make the little hanger:

Without changing or cutting the yarn, chain 20, ss inside the last stitch of the last block, turn, 20dc around the chain, ss in the same stitch as previously.

Fasten off, sew in all ends.

Back panel:

Make another C2C panel of exactly the same size in one colour.

Assembly:

Place the two panels on top of each other, wrong sides facing. Dc around with your preferred colour of yarn. Fasten off, sew in all ends and your pot holder is ready to use.
